Shop, Stop, and Listen! In addition to wonderful shopping, The Charleston Antiques Show is known for their annual series of intimate, salon-style talks with leading designers, lifestyle experts, and all-around tastemakers. This year, explore the world of color and inspiration with designer Lisa Fine, embrace the relaxed elegance of Tom Sheerer’s architecture, enjoy a look at the effortless glamor that infuses the work of designer and influencer Palma Contreras, and finally, entertain in a whole new way after learning party planning secrets from one of the world’s leading authorities on hospitality, Bronson van Wyck.
Lisa Fine grew up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi where her family owned department stores. She describes herself as very influenced by color. In both interior design and in fashion design, she never likes the obvious, or things that look contrived or too matched – there always needs to be something a bit off. Sometimes the accessory or piece of furniture she loves the most is the most unexpected but makes the strongest design impact. Travel is Lisa’s passion and greatest inspiration. Every year she tries to go to at least one new Indian city in search of new textiles, embroideries and crafts. Calcutta and Hyderabad are two of her more recent favorite cities. https://www.historiccharleston.org/blog/event/design-in-mind-lisa-fine/
Tom Scheerer has been practicing architectural and interior design in Manhattan since 1985. His work is characterized by clear and logical architectural solutions combined with beautiful, comfortable furnishings. He has some rules. “Informality is my watchword, especially at the beach,” he says. The Manhattan-based designer’s crisp, breezy decorating style has graced escapes including the tony Lyford Cay Club and three of his own homes in the Bahamas. “I don’t like anything too shiny, too glitzy, or too polished along the shore.” https://www.historiccharleston.org/blog/event/design-in-mind-tom-scheerer-030620/
Paloma Contreras is an award-winning interior decorator, tastemaker, and design influencer based in Houston, Texas. Paloma’s design sensibility is a modern take on traditional style– gravitating towards classic silhouettes and timeless pieces paired with a touch of glamour and an infusion of color. Paloma has honed her distinct eye for style through a decade in the design industry and a lifetime of appreciating beauty in all of its various forms. She has developed a reputation for designing beautiful interiors in a broad range of styles which are executed in a manner that is polished, refined, and effortless. https://www.historiccharleston.org/blog/event/design-in-mind-paloma-contreras-030720/
