Intimate Talks with Design in Mind
Mar 15—17, 2019

This intimate series of salon-style talks with leading designers and tastemakers transforms an already wonderful antiques show into a “can’t miss” experience for design enthusiasts around the country. Four distinctly different, yet equally disarming personalities are ready to transport you through elegant homes that embody Southern ideals; into a celebrated restoration of an historic Venetian Palace; along to the daunting restoration of an unlikely English Lord’s family home; and finally, through the rooms of some of the most iconic designers of the past century.
Susan Sully is the author and photographer of many books about architecture and design including Charleston Style, Savannah Style, Casa Florida, The Southern Cottage, Houses with Charm, and Past Present: Living with Heirlooms and Antiques. Her recent book, The Southern Cosmopolitan (Rizzoli 2018) looks at the tradition of style shaping the South’s architecture and interior design.
Chuck Chewning is the force behind the much-celebrated restoration of the Gritti Palace in Venice Italy, and will share the details of the restoration and the interior design of this important historic landmark during his talk.
Lord Shaftesbury’s talk will explain his sudden inheritance, and will describe his personal trials and tribulations, and eventual successes with the renaissance of St. Giles House and its brilliantly restored high-point Georgian architecture.
Jennifer Boles’ latest book, Inspired Design: The 100 Most Important Interior Designers of the Past 100 Years (Vendome, 2018) takes in the full scope of design over the last century.
